The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has raised serious concerns over the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in examination malpractices, especially in identity manipulation.

Speaking on the matter, Oloyede disclosed that JAMB’s recent investigations uncovered a disturbing trend where candidates attempted to bypass facial recognition systems by falsely claiming to be albinos. According to him, the number of albino candidates registered this year was far higher than the actual number who typically sit for the exam.
He explained that AI tools were being deployed to merge the facial features of two different individuals, generating a fake image that mimics the appearance of an albino. The intention, he said, was to deceive JAMB’s facial recognition technology used during candidate verification.
“One of the centres suspiciously registered 450 candidates as albinos, which immediately drew our attention,” Oloyede revealed. “Upon deeper investigation, we found that the total number of actual albino candidates was less than 250.”
He noted that some of the arrested candidates confessed to using high-tech methods to beat the system, including one instance where a clearly dark-complexioned individual claimed to be albino in an attempt to deceive exam officials.
The JAMB boss warned that the increasing sophistication of exam fraud powered by AI poses a serious threat to the credibility of the country’s examination system. He called for heightened vigilance and stronger technological safeguards to prevent future breaches.
