The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered 9,469 fake admissions carried out by 20 tertiary institutions across Nigeria during the 2024 academic session.

According to JAMB, these admissions were processed outside the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), which was established to promote transparency and fairness in the nation’s admission process. CAPS also enables candidates to monitor their admission status and ensures that all admissions meet standard criteria.

Among the institutions with the highest number of irregular admissions are the Kano State University of Science and Technology, which recorded 2,215 cases; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology with 1,215; and Gombe State University with 1,164 cases. Others include Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (761), Federal University of Technology Owerri (534), Ambrose Alli University (514), Igbinedion University (365), and Akwa Ibom Polytechnic (340).

JAMB has warned institutions against engaging in unauthorized admissions outside CAPS. The board also noted that such actions could carry serious consequences. Affected candidates risk being disqualified from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), while institutions and individuals involved may face legal action, including sanctions and potential loss of institutional privileges.
