Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani on Monday condemned a deadly “terrorist” attack during a political gathering in northwestern Pakistan.

The blast, which occurred in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Sunday afternoon killed 40 people and injured over 150.

In a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the spokesman extended his condolences to the Pakistani government and people adding that Iran stood by Pakistan in the wake of the tragic incident.

The explosion targeted a political convention in the Bajaur district, which gathered more than 400 members and supporters of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) party.

However, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
