In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu, the government said the policy reflects its commitment to improving the living standards of workers and strengthening the state’s economy.

Ugochukwu noted that the new wage structure marks a significant shift in Imo’s economic and social policies, adding that it is designed to empower employees, stimulate spending, and support local enterprises.

Many state workers have already received payment alerts reflecting the new wage, sparking widespread joy and appreciation across various sectors. Under the revised structure, entry-level government workers will now earn N104,000, while medical doctors will receive N513,000 and lecturers in state-owned tertiary institutions will earn N220,000 at entry level.

With this development, Imo now leads the chart of states offering higher-than-national-minimum wages, ahead of Lagos (N88,000), Rivers (N85,000), Akwa Ibom (N80,000), and Bayelsa (N80,000).

The state government maintains that the wage increase is a strategic step aimed at boosting productivity, promoting economic growth, and ensuring that civil servants can better meet their financial needs while contributing to the state’s development.
