Sanusi Bature, the Director General of Media and Communication to the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, revealed on Saturday that he had fortified himself to resist police arrest.

He made this known while addressing participants at the PR Nigeria Young Communication Fellowship in Kano.

Bature recounted how he took refuge in the Kano State Government House for five days to avoid being apprehended by the police. According to him, at least 40 officers from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team were deployed to Kano to arrest him about six days ago.

Explaining his decision to remain within the Government House, Bature said, “The constitutional immunity prevents the arrest of anyone within the premises unless with the governor’s express permission.”

He further disclosed that he had obtained a court order restraining the police from arresting him, which gave him the confidence to attend the event despite the threat of arrest. “So, there was this petition against me that nobody is handling except the IG himself. He deployed 40 personnel of the IG Monitoring Team squad to Kano since Sunday with the mandate of arresting me,” he said.

Bature added, “I came out because of just three things: one, I don’t think I should miss this event even if I’m going to be arrested. The second issue is that I have secured a court order which has not been served to the police but has already gone viral. So, I’m sure they must have seen it. Thirdly, I confidentially ventured out because I’m well fortified to resist arrest if it happens.”

Addressing the young communicators at the event, Bature also emphasized the importance of mentorship, highlighting its role in building careers and fostering professional growth.
