A tragic incident has thrown Wawa Cantonment in Niger State into mourning after a soldier allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Stephen Nwachukwu.

According to the statement, the soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi of the 221 Battalion, reportedly committed the act on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
The bodies of the couple were discovered in their apartment at Block 15, Room 24, Corporals and Below Quarters within the cantonment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the soldier had earlier sought permission from his superior to attend to personal matters before the incident occurred.
The Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, has ordered a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
He assured that the findings would be made public and that necessary measures would be taken to forestall a recurrence.
The Nigerian Army expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, colleagues, and friends of the deceased.
