Speaking at a special Iftar held in his honor at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Saturday night, Tinubu reflected on the challenges he faced on his journey to leadership. The event, which also marked his 73rd birthday, brought together dignitaries who lauded his leadership.
Recounting a personal experience, Tinubu shared how a close relative visited him late at night during the campaign, expressing concerns over the economic difficulties Nigerians were facing. This moment of reflection, he admitted, almost made him reconsider his ambition. However, encouragement from Aminu Masari and other allies strengthened his resolve to push forward.
Acknowledging the hurdles on his path to the presidency, Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to steering Nigeria toward progress. He referenced key decisions made since assuming office, including the removal of fuel subsidies, a move that sparked criticism but underscored his willingness to take bold steps for the country’s future.
Vice President Kashim Shettima commended Tinubu’s governance approach, noting that he has tackled challenges previous administrations avoided. Senate President Godswill Akpabio described Tinubu as Nigeria’s “most audacious president,” while Governor Hope Uzodinma praised his decisive leadership amid uncertainties.
The gathering was attended by notable figures, including First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu and several of the President’s childhood associates. The Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, led prayers, seeking divine guidance for Tinubu and the nation.
