The House of Representatives is set to begin a probe into an alleged diversion of N20 billion by some staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

At plenary on Thursday, the House set up an ad hoc committee for the purpose of the probe following the adoption of a motion by Hafiz Ibrahim Kawu (Kano).

According to Kawu, NNPC staff were reported to have diverted over N20 billion in the guise of consulting fees paid to its consultants.

He regretted that the staff of the company were diverting funds at a time when the federal government was trying to fight corruption and harness resources for infrastructure development.

Kawu said that it is an “unwholesome practice” that affects the fortunes of the country if not checked.
