Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the representative for Bichi Federal Constituency and chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, has granted full foreign scholarships to 21 constituents for studies in Malaysia.

The scholarship recipients will be attending Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for an 18-month program, with fields of study including engineering, computer science, and technology.

During a presentation ceremony in Bichi on Wednesday, each beneficiary received an admission letter along with necessary educational accessories. Additionally, Hon. Bichi announced the sponsorship of 59 science and technical students from secondary schools, providing them with essential educational kits.

To further support education in Bichi, Hon. Bichi has recruited 150 temporary classroom teachers and 50 Islamiyya teachers to serve in local schools. He also approved salary increments for the initial group of 106 teachers.

Addressing attendees at the event, Hon. Bichi stated, “Two years back, we made this promise to sponsor indigenes of Bichi Local Government, and we have kept our promise. All candidates were selected based on merit, with no familial ties; each underwent a rigorous screening process.”

He highlighted his commitment to non-political educational empowerment, saying, “We don’t want to politicize education. People should be empowered based on their abilities. We envision these youth as future leaders of this state.”

Hon. Bichi also underscored the importance of improving educational standards in Bichi, noting, “The southern part of the country is ahead of us educationally. However, crime has significantly reduced in Bichi Local Government because our people go to school, and we will continue to support them up to the university level.”

In his ongoing efforts to enhance local education, Hon. Bichi has built over 500 classrooms across the constituency. “This alone is not enough,” he remarked, “which is why we employed temporary teachers to meet our community’s educational needs.”
