The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested 25 people over an alleged attempt to conduct a same-sex marriage ceremony at Fatima Event Centre in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Commander of the Board, Mujahedeen Aminuddeen, said the arrests followed a report received on Saturday evening, October 25, 2025.

“We received a report from the Hotoro By-Pass area, concerning an incident at Fatima Event Centre. The report indicated that a group of young men, believed to be effeminate, were attempting to conduct a same-sex marriage ceremony, with several women also present to witness the event,” Aminudeen said.
He explained that Hisbah operatives responded swiftly to the tip-off. “Fortunately, our officers swiftly moved to the scene and apprehended several suspects, including the individual identified as the groom. We will conduct a thorough investigation before handing them over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution,” he added.
Aminuddeen, who described the act as morally unacceptable, called on parents to take responsibility for guiding their children. “This is why we continually urge parents to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards. Neglect often leads to situations like this, where men attempt to marry men and women marry women openly,” he stated.
He disclosed that 25 suspects, comprising 18 men and seven women, were arrested during the operation, with some reportedly coming from Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa areas.
Aminuddeen reaffirmed the Hisbah Board’s commitment to upholding moral standards in the state, stressing that the agency would continue to clamp down on any act considered immoral or contrary to Kano’s religious and cultural values.
