Gunmen suspected to be bandits abducted the village head of Ungwan Babangida and 14 others in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday night.

The assailants stormed the village, armed with sophisticated weapons, and opened fire sporadically before abducting the victims.

Among those kidnapped were three women, nine men, and two labourers who had traveled from Jigawa State and Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna for farming activities.

Aminu Khalid, a youth leader from Dokan Karji, confirmed the incident, revealing that the attack occurred at midnight.

This kidnapping follows a similar incident just 48 hours earlier, when four farmers were abducted in the Libere community, also located in Kauru.

Khalid appealed for urgent military intervention to curb the growing banditry in the area, citing the rising death toll among local men and the ongoing occupation of several villages by the bandits.

“Kauru communities need serious military action against these bandits. The federal government and security operatives must intensify efforts to cripple the activities of these criminals who have made life unbearable for villagers,” Khalid said.

He also praised local vigilantes for their proactive efforts, pointing out that they had thwarted several kidnapping attempts in surrounding villages.
