Unidentified gunmen have abducted a 76-year-old retired army officer, Major Pastor Joe Ajayi, from his residence in Odo-Ape, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident, which occurred around 11:30 pm on Wednesday, has left the community in shock. Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired gunshots before whisking Ajayi away to an unknown destination. Concerns have grown over his safety due to his old age and fragile health.

Residents say the incident adds to a troubling pattern of kidnappings in the region. Earlier in the year, a council member and several individuals were reportedly kidnapped from a local farm.

The Okun Development Association (ODA) had recently raised an alarm over the increasing insecurity in Okunland, particularly after a traditional ruler was kidnapped in Okoloke. The group had called on both government authorities and security agencies to act swiftly to protect lives and property.

Community members are now demanding a more visible security presence to deter further attacks and ensure the safe return of the retired Major.
