In a press briefing held on Thursday, the Coalition of Political Analysts Forum, Democracy Protectors and Good Governance expressed concern over the prolonged legal tussle surrounding the emirate. The group noted that the matter has dragged on for over a year and warned that the delay is increasing public anxiety and deepening political tension in Kano State.
According to the coalition, the situation is being exploited by various interests, leading to unnecessary interference in what should be a constitutionally resolved issue. The group urged the apex court to assert its authority and bring legal clarity to the controversy.
The coalition also highlighted the potential for increased division and unrest in Kano if the case continues to linger without resolution. It emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace and democratic values by ensuring that the judiciary concludes the matter without further delay.
Sanusi was removed as Emir in 2020 by then-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who appointed Bayero. In May 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi and dissolved the five emirates created by Ganduje. Bayero, now in the Nasarawa mini-palace, is challenging his removal, while Sanusi occupies the main Gidan Rumfa palace. Though the Court of Appeal upheld Sanusi’s reinstatement in January, enforcement was paused in March pending a Supreme Court decision.
