The tragedy unfolded when authorities attempted to demolish houses, citing claims that the land belonged to Bayero University Kano (BUK). Residents resisted the move, leading to a confrontation with security forces, which resulted in the deaths and multiple injuries.

To support the community, Governor Yusuf unveiled several development projects, including the construction of a Juma’at mosque in memory of the deceased, connection to the national electricity grid, installation of solar-powered boreholes, establishment of a primary healthcare center, and construction of an access road.

Condemning the use of live ammunition on civilians, the governor warned security forces against such actions and set up an investigative committee to probe the incident.

Governor Yusuf also summoned the management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) and directed them to immediately halt any further demolition activities in the area assuring residents that his administration would work toward a peaceful resolution of the decades-long land dispute between the university and the community.

Community leaders, including Baba Habu Mikail and Tijjani Amiru, commended the governor’s intervention, describing it as a sign of his commitment to the welfare of Kano residents.
