The Kano State Government has concluded plans to empower 1,130 graduates from six recently revived entrepreneurship training institutes as part of efforts to boost human capital development and promote economic self-reliance among youths.

This was revealed by the Secretary to the Steering Committee for the 26 Entrepreneurship Institutes, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, during a stakeholder engagement with small-scale business owners held at the Dangote Business School, Bayero University Kano, over the weekend.

According to Dr. Muhammad, the empowerment initiative will benefit graduates across several specialized institutes. At the Livestock Institute, 140 graduates will receive a bull, animal feed, veterinary supplies, and a N100,000 startup grant. The Horticulture Institute will support 200 beneficiaries with water pumps, wheelbarrows, spraying equipment, cutting tools, and N100,000 each.

In the Driving Institute, 250 graduates are expected to receive N200,000, certificates of completion, support for obtaining a driver’s license, and a monthly transport allowance of N15,000. Similarly, 250 graduates from the Informatics Institute will receive laptops, toolkits for repairs, and N100,000 in capital. For those trained in the Film Institute, 90 graduates will get support for movie production and editing, while 200 participants from the Fisheries Institute will be equipped with collapsible tanks, fish feed, veterinary drugs, juvenile fish, and weighing scales.

Dr. Muhammad noted that the six revived institutes have so far trained and graduated over 840 participants, many of whom have already received their post-training packages. He added that five additional institutes are in the pipeline and are expected to accommodate up to 1,600 more youths upon completion.

The 26 entrepreneurship institutes were left dormant for nearly a decade under the previous administration, a move that undermined their purpose and worsened youth unemployment. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has since undertaken a comprehensive revival of the program to tackle joblessness and drive economic empowerment across the state.
