The Kano State Government has launched its Anti-Corruption Strategy (2024–2028), a bold initiative aimed at combating corruption and fostering integrity within the state.
The unveiling took place during an event backed by the European Union-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme Phase II, implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).

The launch coincided with the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day, which carried the theme, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The theme emphasized the pivotal role of young people as agents of change in the battle against corruption.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State described corruption as a major challenge that weakens trust, undermines institutions, and stalls development. He highlighted his administration’s commitment to tackling systemic corruption.
“Protecting human rights is at the heart of our administration’s agenda,” Yusuf stated. “We are committed to blocking systemic linkages, investigating corruption, and ensuring value for public funds.”
The event featured debates, sensitization campaigns, and discussions involving stakeholders, which stressed the importance of collaboration among anti-corruption agencies, civil society, the media, and the private sector.
Ibrahim Bello, the RoLAC State Coordinator, reiterated the European Union’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s anti-corruption reforms.
“The European Union and International IDEA remain steadfast in their partnership with Nigeria to promote good governance, transparency, and accountability,” Bello said. “This strategy demonstrates what can be achieved through collective efforts.”
Bello also praised Governor Yusuf for his proactive approach to governance, stating, “The governor is a formidable partner in the fight against corruption in the state. He has shown unwavering commitment by working with development partners to ensure a corruption-free state.”
