The governor gave the assurance on Sunday while receiving an update from the Task Force on Mobilisation for Voter Registration, which was recently set up to coordinate the exercise across the state.

Governor Yusuf said his government is determined to ensure that no eligible citizen is left behind in the ongoing registration drive, noting that access to Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) is central to strengthening democracy and civic participation.

He pledged full government support for the task force in carrying out its assignment, stressing that the ultimate goal is to expand citizen participation in the democratic process.

The task force, according to officials, has outlined several strategies, including massive sensitisation campaigns to encourage residents to register and obtain their PVCs. It is also working closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Recently, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam held a meeting with the Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner to assess readiness and address challenges.

Beyond government involvement, the task force has secured the backing of traditional leaders, civil society groups, and local government officials. Plans are underway to recruit volunteers in all 484 wards to support registration centres and mobilise communities.

Despite Kano’s large population, recent figures from INEC show the state lagging behind in pre-registration numbers. In the first week of the online exercise, INEC recorded 1,379,342 pre-registrations nationwide, with Osun (393,269) and Lagos (222,205) topping the list, while Kano recorded only 10,166. In the North West, Kaduna led with 61,592, followed by Kebbi with 35,009 and Katsina with 11,004.

Governor Yusuf, however, expressed confidence that with the renewed push, Kano would not only catch up but also lead the nation in voter registration turnout.
