Gov. Yusuf nominates former CoS Sagagi, five others as commissioners

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has submitted six names to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioner nominees.

Daily News 24 reports that the Speaker of the House, Ismail Falgore, announced the nominees during a plenary session on Monday, where he read the governor’s letter.

The nominees include the dismissed Chief of Staff, Shehu Sagagi, alongside Dahiru Hashim, Ibrahim Wayya, Isma’il Dan Maraya, Gaddafi Shehu, and Abdulkadir AbdulSalam.

The nominations follow recent administrative changes introduced by Governor Yusuf, which included the dismissal of five commissioners, the scrapping of the Chief of Staff’s office, and the removal of the Secretary to the State Government on health grounds.

As a result of the reshuffle carried out by the governor last Thursday, six ministries in Kano State are currently without commissioners. The affected ministries include the Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Ministry of Electricity.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf appointed the former Chief of Staff, Gwani Shehu Wada Sagagi, as the Secretary and Head of the Secretariat of the newly constituted Kano State Shura Council. The council comprises 46 prominent members, including academics, community leaders, and Islamic scholars, tasked with advising the government on critical state matters.

In a political and current affairs program on Saturday, Sagagi expressed his readiness to embrace whatever fate life had in store for him. He reiterated his dedication to contributing to the development of Kano State in any capacity. “I remain committed to serving the state, and my relationship with Governor Yusuf remains strong,” he stated.
