Governor Yusuf described the institution as “a hub for technical incubation, vocational excellence, and professional skills development,” noting that it will train young people in engineering technology, applied sciences, environmental studies, business and other fields.
He said the siting of the Polytechnic in Gaya is part of efforts to honour the emirate’s long-standing tradition of learning. “This is not merely an infrastructural project; it is a recognition of a proud people, a proud heritage, and a continued legacy of knowledge passed down by our forefathers,” he added.
Yusuf urged residents to take ownership of the institution by safeguarding its facilities and supporting its operations, stressing that the project will create jobs, attract investment and stimulate growth in Gaya and neighbouring communities. He added that thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities would emerge as the Polytechnic takes off.
Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, thanked the governor for choosing Gaya as the location of the institution and said admission will commence soon.
The Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, also commended the administration for initiating notable projects across the emirate.
In his welcome remarks, Chairman of the Implementation Committee and former Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Prof. Atiku Kurawa, said the committee has worked to ensure the institution will offer quality education and recognised certifications.
