Kano State Governor, Kabir Yusuf, has officially commissioned the newly upgraded Dambatta International Cattle Market.

This project was realized through a partnership between the state government and the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project, which is funded by the Islamic Development Bank.

The commissioning was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa. According to the statement, the Dambatta cattle market is one of five markets upgraded under this initiative. Other markets include those in Tsanyawa, Falgore, Doguwa, and Wudil.

“The Dambatta cattle market is one of the five other upgraded markets, which include Tsanyawa, Falgore, Doguwa, and Wudil cattle markets, respectively,” the statement read. “In each of the five markets, the state government has provided loading ramps, water facilities, office accommodation for market information, security posts, veterinary services infrastructure, public conveniences, as well as electricity for security to trade even in dark hours.”

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the upgrades are part of the government’s broader plan to modernize the livestock value chain, particularly by improving transport logistics. This, he explained, will help reduce livestock mortality rates and create a healthier trading environment.

Livestock trading, the governor added, plays a crucial role in Kano’s economy, supporting the livelihoods of millions and contributing to poverty reduction while bolstering the overall agricultural value chain.

Speaking on behalf of the Dambatta community, the governor’s Special Adviser on Publicity, Jamilu Danbatta, expressed the community’s deep gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his commitment to enhancing the economic prospects of the area.
