Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University for a five-year tenure, effective December 1, 2025.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The appointment comes after the University Council conducted a thorough selection process and recommended her for the position.

Governor Yusuf, who serves as Visitor to the university, praised the Council’s chairman and members for ensuring a fair and merit-based selection. He also called on the public to pray for guidance for Prof. Bayero as she takes on her new role.

Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero is a renowned scholar in Analytical Chemistry and the first woman to earn a PhD in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano. She has held multiple leadership positions, including Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

Her career is marked by significant research contributions, strong leadership, and mentorship of young scientists. Observers expect her appointment to advance academic standards and foster gender inclusivity in higher education within Kano State.
