According to a statement by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam, the project aims to boost agriculture and enhance food security across the state. While Kiru and neighboring Bebeji LGAs are the immediate beneficiaries, the project is expected to impact all 44 LGAs in Kano and support increased agricultural output in other states.
The dam will have a storage capacity of 3.1 billion litres of water and cover 1,000 hectares of irrigable land, with 500 hectares set for development in the first phase. An estimated 1,000 to 3,000 farmers are expected to benefit directly from the scheme in its initial stage.
The duration of the project will depend on the construction agreement, with the scope requiring significant engineering work to ensure quality and durability.
