Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the presentation of a bill to the State House of Assembly seeking to ban same-sex marriage and other activities the government describes as immoral.

The decision followed the 31st Executive Council meeting held at the Government House Annex, Kwankwasiyya City, according to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf stressed that his administration remains committed to safeguarding Kano’s Islamic and cultural values, insisting that practices viewed as contrary to the state’s traditions would not be condoned.
The proposed law targets acts such as same-sex marriage, “Madigo” (lesbianism), and “Luwadi” (sodomy), with provisions for strict punishment for anyone caught engaging in or promoting them.
The governor maintained that protecting the moral integrity of Kano society is a key responsibility of his administration, adding that acts conflicting with religion and tradition will not be tolerated.
He further expressed optimism that the State Assembly would treat the bill with urgency, describing it as vital to protecting the moral and social fabric of Kano State.
