Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has appointed his former Chief of Staff, Gwani Shehu Wada Sagagi, as the secretary and head of the secretariat of the newly constituted Kano State Shura Council.

A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the formation of the council, which comprises 46 prominent members, including Islamic scholars, academics, and respected community leaders. The council is tasked with advising the government on socio-economic and religious matters.

Professor Shehu Galadanci has been appointed as chairman of the council, with Professor Muhammad Sani Zahraddeen serving as vice chairman. Other notable members include Sheikh Abdulwahhab Abdallah, Sheikh Karibullah Nasiru Kabara, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, and Sheikh Tijjani Bala Kalarawi.

Sagagi, who now serves as the council’s secretary, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the secretariat to ensure smooth coordination and efficiency.

The governor highlighted the importance of the Shura Council as the apex socio-religious advisory body, emphasizing its role in promoting peace, unity, and development in the state.

“This initiative reflects Governor Yusuf’s commitment to fostering collaboration between the government and key stakeholders, while respecting Kano’s cultural and religious institutions,” the statement read.

While congratulating the appointees, Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in their qualifications and integrity, urging them to deliver on their mandate effectively.
