Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been commended for redeeming a pledge of a 3-bedroom flat to the African first individual Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara, who achieved the feat 25 years ago at the Atlanta 96.

The commendation was made by the Executive Director of Greatdynamics and Talents Ambassadors, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, during the presentation of the keys and documents of the apartment at the Lagos State Government House.

He described Governor Sanwo-Olu as a man of action and pacesetter.

Ikpea, who is also the national chairman of the Nigeria Football supporters club, appreciated the prompt response of Governor Sanwo-Olu who supported the call of the Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medalist to build a sports development centre where future athletes can be groomed and nurtured.

Ajunwa then presented a replica of the gold medal to Governor Sanwo-Olu as she begins the preparations to celebrate 25 years of her Olympic success. At the same time, government, cooperative organizations, and individuals support make the event a success.

According to the group’s spokesperson, Isma’eel Abba Tangalashi, Ajunwa is expected to tour the 36 states of the federation and gave a replica of the Atlanta 1996 Olympics gold medal to all the Governors.

She stated that the celebration is about touching the lives of young talents in the country.

“Since I was like them before and this time around, I’m a household name, so I need to use my platform to help them. That is exactly what I want to achieve.

“The development centre I’m talking about is for the future generations coming,” happy Ajunwa concluded.

Ajunwa-Okpara, who is now an Assistant Commissioner of Police, said the gesture from the Lagos State Government is a motivation to a new generation of athletes.
