Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has suspended his Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions, Alhaji Bashir Ado, following an alleged premature statement regarding the approval of a new N70,000 minimum wage.

The suspension was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Bala Ibrahim, on Saturday in Dutse. Ibrahim expressed the government’s concern over the circulating media reports suggesting that the governor had approved the minimum wage increase.
“This sounds embarrassing and premature, as the committee headed by the Head of the State Civil Service, set up to advise on the appropriate wage, is yet to complete its assignment and submit a report,” Ibrahim stated.
In response to the incident, Governor Namadi ordered Ado’s immediate suspension and set up a committee to investigate the matter. The investigation, chaired by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Abdulkadir, is tasked with probing the source, content, and motive of the alleged statement.
Ibrahim also revealed that the committee members include the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Sagir Musa; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad; and Permanent Secretary of Establishment and Service Matters in the SSG’s office, Muhammad Hahaha. The committee has been given two weeks to submit its report.
