Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), throwing the party’s scheduled governorship primary into confusion just a day before delegates were expected to vote.

The state PDP chairman, Sunday Bisi, told reporters on Monday that the exercise slated for Tuesday would no longer hold, citing deepening factional disagreements within the party and the governor’s withdrawal from the race.
But in a conflicting notice, the PDP national secretariat maintained that the primary would proceed on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo, signalling a widening rift between the state and national leadership.
Adeleke’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede. In the letter, released on Monday evening, the governor linked his exit to the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the PDP at the national level.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership with immediate effect,” he wrote, expressing appreciation for the roles the party had entrusted to him, including his service as senator for Osun West and later as governor.
Adeleke’s exit adds to a recent wave of defections from the PDP, including governors Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Peter Mbah of Enugu, who have all joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting growing concerns over the PDP’s influence ahead of future elections.
