The leadership of Gauta Club has expressed full support for the recent directive suspending live political programmes on broadcast stations across Kano State.

Daily News 24 reports that the chairman of Gauta Club, Alhaji Hamisu Danwawu Fagge, speaking on behalf of its members, told journalists on Monday that the decision was important to promote peace, accountability, and professionalism in political discussions.

The directive to suspend live political programmes followed a quarterly meeting held last Thursday between the Kano Media Executives Forum, other key stakeholders, and the Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs. The resolution was signed by Sani Abba Yola, Director of Special Duties in the ministry

Gauta Club, which comprises individuals with political experience and media interests from various political parties, said the directive is already yielding positive results.

“Since the directive took effect, we have observed commendable improvements, especially among radio stations, as evidenced by the changes implemented last week following the announcement. This shows seriousness in enforcing the policy,” the group noted.

The club emphasized that the decision aims to curb rising tensions and indecent language often witnessed during live political programmes.

“The suspension of political programmes aims to address escalating tensions and public indecency stemming from unprofessional and inflammatory remarks during such programmes. We support this action and are committed to contributing to its success,” they said.

According to Gauta Club, the suspension is not just about discipline but also about protecting the dignity of leaders and shielding media houses from unnecessary conflicts.

“This move safeguards media practitioners from legal infractions arising from unprofessional conduct. It also protects our religious and cultural values from being undermined by shameful and undignified speech,” they disclosed.

The group described the initiative as a bold step to uphold journalistic ethics and improve political discourse in Kano.

“Truthfully, no society can watch itself crumble through unchecked verbal attacks on its values, leaders, and institutions. That is why we welcome this initiative and call on others to do the same in order to protect dignity and order in our state.”

Gauta Club pledged continued support for the policy, especially among those in radio and television broadcasting.
