Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has said the party is ready to welcome back Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, but only if he agrees to follow due process.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa, Ganduje stressed that the APC is guided by rules and constitution, and anyone seeking to rejoin must abide by them. He maintained that the party would not grant special privileges to returnees, adding that they must also accept the consequences of their past political choices.

There have been reports suggesting that Kwankwaso had opened discussions with APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, over a possible defection. However, Kwankwaso has dismissed the claims, describing them as unfounded and lacking credibility.

Commenting further on the speculation, Ganduje likened any move by Kwankwaso to return as “licking his vomit,” implying it would mean acknowledging his past decisions and seeking a political reset.

On internal party matters, Ganduje revealed that divisions within the APC in Kano had been resolved. He also noted that the recent APC stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja was convened to review the party’s performance in the 2023 elections and to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership.

Dismissing speculations of a rift with the president, Ganduje insisted his relationship with Tinubu remains cordial, stressing that the APC in Kano is committed to supporting Tinubu’s administration and working towards reclaiming the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
