Sanusi’s journey in the emirate began in 1959 when his father, Emir Sanusi I, appointed him as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and district head of Ungogo. Over the decades, he ascended the ranks, holding titles such as Dan Iyan Kano in 1962 and later Wambai of Kano during Emir Ado Bayero’s reign. His highest appointment came under Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, his nephew, who named him Galadiman Kano, making him the most senior councillor in the emirate council.
Born in 1933 in Bichi, Sanusi received his early education at Kofar Kudu Elementary School before proceeding to Kano Middle School, now known as Rumfa College. His passing has drawn tributes from many, including Rep. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who described him as a dedicated custodian of Kano’s heritage and traditions.
Sanusi is survived by three wives, numerous children, and many grandchildren. Among his children is Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His funeral is scheduled for today, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, Kano, where the funeral prayer will also be conducted.
