President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the National Assembly, seeking an amendment to the 2022 supplementary appropriation Act.

This is to enable the Federal Government to source N500 billion for palliative measures, aiming to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the letter during Wednesday’s plenary session in the House.

According to the President, the funds will be obtained from the N819.5 billion allocated in the 2022 supplementary Appropriation Act.

The Speaker announced that Tinubu’s request would be considered during Thursday’s plenary and encouraged members willing to contribute to be prepared to do so.

The letter titled, “Request for the amendment of the 2022 appropriation act,” explains the necessity to seek the House of Representatives’ approval for amending the act.

It emphasizes the need for funds to provide necessary palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

The letter specifies that N500 billion has been extracted from the N819.536 billion allocated in the 2022 appropriation act for this purpose.

The President expressed his expectation for the House to promptly consider the request.
