Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has called for calm following the declaration of a state of emergency and his removal from office.

Daily News 24 reports that Fubara, in a statement on Wednesday, said his administration remained committed to constitutional order and the well-being of Rivers people despite political tensions. “Since assuming office, all my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath and a great sense of duty. We prioritized the protection of lives and property and ensured continuous progress,” he said.
He noted that after President Bola Tinubu’s intervention to resolve the crisis, he implemented the agreed terms in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had earlier resigned. “We also swiftly complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment to restore normalcy, not for personal gain, but to foster peace, unity, and stability,” he added.
Fubara accused members of the Rivers State House of Assembly of frustrating efforts to maintain peace. However, he insisted that governance had continued. “Yes, we have political disagreements, but good governance has remained. Salaries have been paid, projects are ongoing, and Rivers State is safe and secure under our watch.”
He urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding while seeking ways to protect democracy. “We will engage relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” he assured.
