Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former aide to Nigerian presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 72 after battling cancer.

His death was confirmed on Friday morning, with reports indicating that he had been struggling with prostate cancer for 16 years and was later diagnosed with sarcoma in his right shoulder. In October 2023, he was flown to Israel for treatment, but his health continued to decline.
Okupe played a significant role in Nigerian politics, serving as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity under Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Jonathan. He also led the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential campaign but stepped down following a court conviction related to alleged money laundering.
