Former President Muhammadu Buhari was buried on Tuesday evening in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, as Nigerians and world leaders gathered to pay their final respects.

The ceremony, conducted according to Islamic traditions, was led by the Chief Imam of Katsina State. Buhari was interred around 5:50 p.m. at his private residence following funeral prayers at the central mosque.

His body was carried to the gravesite by senior Army Generals and Service Chiefs, and a 21-gun salute was fired in his honour.

To mark the occasion, the Federal Government declared a national public holiday, allowing citizens across the country to follow the proceedings and honour the late leader.

Among those in attendance were President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. Former Vice Presidents Yemi Osinbajo and Atiku Abubakar were also present, alongside President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau and Niger Republic’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was also present at the burial, along with Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda. Others included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, businessman Aliko Dangote, former Minister Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Kabiru Gaya, and the Emir of Daura and more.

A large crowd of residents filled the streets of Daura to witness the burial. At the family residence, sympathisers extended their condolences to grieving relatives and close associates.
