No fewer than five personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have died in a fatal auto crash along the Jos-Akwanga Express Road.

The incident occurred on 22 October 2024, while the personnel were on their way to attend a sports event in Abuja. Their vehicle reportedly collided with an oncoming truck, resulting in the deaths of the military officers.

Confirming the tragic accident, the Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, issued a statement on Tuesday. He expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, saying, “The Nigerian Air Force deeply regrets to announce the loss of five of our gallant personnel who were involved in a tragic road traffic accident on 22 October 2024.”

Akinboyewa provided details about the crash, explaining that “the unfortunate incident occurred around Hawan Kibo along the Jos-Akwanga Express Road. Our personnel were heading for a sporting event in Abuja when their vehicle was involved in a collision with an oncoming truck.”

He further stated that NAF had begun activating administrative protocols to provide support for the bereaved families, adding, “We appeal to the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ families during this difficult time and to refrain from sharing unverified details. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”

The statement highlighted that efforts to comfort and support the families of the deceased had already commenced.
