A tragic fire claimed the lives of Mallam Aliyu Mohammed, the Vice Principal of Dugja Bayan Tasha Junior Secondary School in Biu, Borno State, his wife, and their three children on Sunday, February 3, 2025.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though there is speculation that an electrical fault may have sparked the devastating blaze.

As the fire quickly consumed their sitting room, the family attempted to flee, but the flames had already spread to all escape routes, trapping them inside.

The Southern Borno Progressive Union and the Biu Forum have both issued statements, praising Mallam Aliyu Mohammed for his significant contributions to education in the region and condemning the tragic loss of such a promising family.

Following Islamic customs, the family was laid to rest on the same day.
