The Federal Ministry of Power has proposed an N8 billion budget to educate Nigerians on the importance of timely electricity bill payments in 2025.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, on Monday during his budget defense before the National Assembly’s joint committee on power.

Adelabu explained that the funds would be used to run advocacy campaigns through various platforms, including social media, digital channels, and print media, in an effort to reach the country’s over 200 million citizens.

“We are a people of over 200 million strength. So we need to go through all the loopholes, through social media, through digital media, through the print media, to actually orientate and do this advocacy. So we have N8 billion,” Adelabu said.

The Minister emphasized the need for public awareness, explaining that many Nigerians are yet to fully grasp the importance of protecting the power sector. He stressed the significance of combating power theft and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity. “Our people need to know that they should avoid power theft. When they see something, they must say something,” he added.

Adelabu further highlighted the necessity of regular bill payments and reiterated that extensive advocacy and re-orientation are required to instill these practices among the populace. “We believe that the power sector needs to do a lot of advocacy, re-orientation, and re-education of our people,” he concluded.
