The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has sealed off 22 illegal colleges of education operating in different parts of the country.

The move, disclosed in the commission’s recent performance report, is part of a nationwide clampdown on unaccredited institutions that have been issuing questionable certificates and undermining standards in the education sector.
According to the NCCE, the action followed a series of personnel audits and financial monitoring exercises carried out in all 21 federal colleges of education to ensure compliance with regulations.
The development also aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to the NCCE, National Universities Commission (NUC), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to intensify action against “certificate millers” threatening the integrity of Nigeria’s education system. Tinubu has repeatedly stressed his administration’s commitment to improving efficiency and quality by strengthening collaboration among relevant agencies.
As part of this effort, the NCCE is working closely with the NUC, NBTE, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, and the National Youth Service Corps to eliminate unrecognized institutions and prevent cases of certificate forgery.
