The Federal Government has called for the death penalty for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following his conviction on all seven terrorism charges.

Justice James Omotoso of the Federal High Court in Abuja found Kanu guilty on Thursday, ruling that the prosecution had proven his involvement in the offenses beyond a reasonable doubt.
Following the verdict, the government’s lead counsel, Senior Advocate Adegboyega Awomolo, urged the court to impose the maximum sentence under the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, highlighting that the law mandates death for several of the counts on which Kanu was convicted.
The judge subsequently adjourned the proceedings until 3:50 p.m., stating that he would deliver Kanu’s sentence after reviewing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
