The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly denied allegations by Nigerien authorities that Nigerian security forces, in collaboration with foreign forces, supported the Lakurawa terrorist group in attacking the Niger-Benin oil pipeline on December 13, 2024, in Gaya, Dosso Region of Niger Republic.

In a statement issued by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria expressed condolences to the Nigerien government over the attack but firmly rejected claims of any involvement.
“The perpetrators were neither backed nor assisted by Nigerian authorities. The Government of Nigeria is strongly committed to the fight against terrorism and will not condone or support the activities of such groups,” the statement read.
Nigeria also dismissed allegations of French military troops in northern Nigeria preparing to destabilize Niger’s government, describing the claims as baseless.
“These allegations are unfounded and should be discarded in their entirety,” the ministry emphasized.
The statement highlighted the cordial relationship between Nigeria and France, stressing that it is built on mutual respect, dignity, and non-interference in internal affairs.
“Nigeria will continue to explore all peaceful means to maintain its cordial relationship with the Republic of Niger for the benefit of the people of both countries,” the ministry concluded.
