The declaration was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

According to the announcement, Wednesday, December 25 and Thursday, December 26, 2025, have been declared public holidays for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, while Wednesday, January 1, 2026, will be observed as a public holiday for the New Year celebration.

The minister encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice linked to the birth of Prophet Jesus (A.S), describing the festive season as a time for unity and sober reflection.

He also urged citizens, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds, to use the period to pray for peace, improved security and the overall development of the country.
