Federal University Lokoja has been indefinitely closed following intense student protests over a fatal accident that claimed the lives of seven students.

The institution’s management announced the closure in a circular released on Thursday by Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, Registrar and Secretary to Council. The decision, made in consultation with security agencies, was aimed at preventing further unrest and potential loss of life.

The protests erupted on Monday after a collision involving a trailer and the university’s shuttle bus resulted in the immediate deaths of the students. In response, students barricaded the university gates, demanding justice for their deceased colleagues.

Students have been instructed to leave the campuses by 12 noon on Thursday, February 20, 2025. The university urged compliance with the directive as authorities work towards restoring order.
