The Governing Council of the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State has approved the appointment of Prof. Muhammad Gumel as the institution’s fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Shu’aibu Abdulrahim, made the disclosure on Saturday in Dutse, explaining that the decision was reached during a special meeting of the council held on the university’s campus.
According to Abdulrahim, the appointment will take effect from February 10, 2026. He noted that the selection followed a rigorous and transparent process, during which 21 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed before Prof. Gumel emerged as the preferred candidate.
The council chairman congratulated the incoming Vice-Chancellor and charged him to discharge his duties with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility in advancing the university’s mandate.
In his response, Prof. Gumel expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor while working to further strengthen the institution.
Prof. Gumel holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology obtained in 2009 and a PhD in Industrial Biotechnology, with specialization in biocatalysis and bioprocess technology, awarded in 2013 by the University of Malaya, Malaysia. He also completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the same university in 2014.
