Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government, following what she termed a breach of constitutional provisions.

During Wednesday’s ruling, Justice Abdulmalik stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before only four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly constituted a “constitutional affront.”

She further criticized the allocation and disbursement of funds to the Rivers State Government since January 2024, labeling it a “constitutional somersault and aberration” that must be halted.

“The actions of the governor in implementing an unlawful budget represent gross violations of the 1999 Constitution, which he swore to uphold,” she stated.

The judge ordered the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank to refrain from allowing Governor Fubara to access funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account until further notice.

Again, Rivers Assembly threatens to impeach Gov Fubara

Earlier, Daily News 24 reported how the Rivers State House of Assembly, criticised the state Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his lack of transparency.

During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, shared this information.

Amaewhule, along with 26 members of the Assembly, presented a 10-point briefing criticising the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Fubara.

They alleged that the governor failed to fulfil his obligations under the Presidential Peace Accord, which he willingly signed without any form of pressure.

In addition, they clarified that they retracted their impeachment notice against Governor Fubara as a gesture of respect towards President Tinubu and in the hope that the governor will reconsider his position.
