The incident happened near the NYSC Secretariat Junction and involved a tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The vehicle tilted dangerously, raising fears of a possible explosion in the densely populated area.

Emergency response agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Red Cross Society, and Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), arrived promptly at the scene to contain the situation. Their swift and coordinated action was credited with preventing a catastrophic explosion.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement issued by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, commended the bravery and professionalism of the responders. “Their bravery and timely action not only prevented a disaster but also ensured the safety of lives and properties and restored normal traffic flow in a highly sensitive location,” he stated.

The governor praised the effective collaboration among the agencies, stressing that their unity and prompt response were vital in averting the crisis.

He also urged tanker drivers and filling station operators to observe strict safety measures during fuel loading and offloading to prevent future incidents.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to public safety, assuring that efforts to improve emergency preparedness and inter-agency cooperation would be sustained to protect lives and property across Kano State.
