Daily News 24 reports that a former student of the university, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed in an interview on Monday that she graduated in 2020 but has still not received her certificate.
“Since I graduated in 2020, I have not been given my certificate. I was only issued a statement of result, and this has stopped me from furthering my education,” she said.
Another affected graduate said he fulfilled all requirements to graduate from the institution but is yet to receive his certificate.
“I spilled over, completed every other requirement, but up till now, I have not received my certificate. Only my statement of result. Some students have not even been issued their statements at all,” he disclosed.

University reacts to complaints
Responding to the complaints, the Public Relations Officer of Northwest University, Abubakar Ibrahim, disclosed in an interview that the delay in issuing some certificates was caused by errors identified during the printing process.
He explained that some of the certificates were printed with errors, particularly in endorsement details that did not align with the officially approved information earlier provided by the university.
Abubakar said the printing company responsible for the certificates has acknowledged the mistake and the resulting delay, assuring the university that the remaining certificates are being corrected and will be delivered.
Certificates now available for collection
The Public Relations Officer confirmed that some corrected certificates have already been delivered from the United Kingdom and are available for collection at the Office of the Registrar.
“Certificates for undergraduate graduates of the 2023/2024 academic session and postgraduate graduates of the 2022/2023 session are ready for collection,” he stated.
He added that collection commenced on Monday, December 22, 2025, from Mondays to Fridays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Apology and assurance to graduands
The Public Relations Officer of Northwest University, Kano, advised affected graduands to seek accurate information only from appropriate university officials, while apologising to those whose certificates are still pending.
“We sincerely apologise to all graduands whose certificates are yet to be received. Management understands the inconvenience this delay has caused and is taking all necessary steps to ensure the remaining certificates are corrected and delivered without further delay,” he said.
Despite these assurances, affected graduates say they remain hopeful that the university’s ongoing engagement with the printing company will finally bring an end to the lingering certificate delays that have stalled their academic and career ambitions.
