England’s players will donate their Euro 2020 prize money to various National Health Service (NHS) charities after Sunday’s final against Italy.

The Football Association will be in line to receive around £24 million (about 13bn Naira) if England beat Italy at Wembley.

A portion of that fee – around £9.6m (about 5bn naira) – will be shared among Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad, but the players intend to donate their winnings to help the NHS.

If the Three Lions are beaten by Italy in the final, the squad would be awarded a reduced bonus of around £8.5m.

The plan is yet to be finalised due to tax reasons but NHS charities are set to be handed a huge windfall due to England’s success this summer.

England’s players are already donating their match fees for each Euro 2020 game to worthy causes.

A statement on behalf of the players before the tournament began read: ‘Following positive discussions with the FA, the England senior men’s squad are pleased to confirm that a significant donation from their international match fees will be made to NHS Charities Together via the #PlayersTogether initiative.

‘This contribution will be taken from a fund already set aside to support a variety of worthy causes using all match fees collated since September 2018.’

England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy kicks off at Wembley at 8PM on Sunday evening. [Merto Sport]
