In a ruling on Friday, a three-member panel led by Justice Okon Abang suspended the enforcement of its January 10 decision, which validated the repeal of the 2019 Emirate Council Law.
The injunction was granted in response to an application filed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, who argued that allowing Sanusi’s reinstatement before the Supreme Court’s final ruling could have legal consequences.
The judgment also upheld the five emirates-Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano, and Karaye. Additionally, the appellate court directed the applicant to file an undertaking within 14 days, committing to compensate the respondents if the order is later deemed unnecessary.
The crisis dates back to 2020 when former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje dethroned Sanusi and divided the emirate. In 2024, Governor Abba Yusuf repealed the law and reinstated Sanusi, triggering a legal battle.
