The Emir of Potiskum in Yobe State, Umar Bauya, visited the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at his palace on Sunday.

This marked the first time a northern emir has paid a solidarity visit to Sanusi since his reinstatement by Governor Abba Yusuf.

The visit, attended by other traditional rulers from the Kano emirate, was an expression of support for Emir Sanusi, who also serves as the Nigerian spiritual leader of the Tijaniyya Sect.

During the visit, Emir Bauya expressed his personal and regional backing for Sanusi, recalling a similar experience in his own life. “It happened to me some 26 years ago, and with the help of Allah, I was returned and am now living peacefully with my people,” Bauya said.

He further noted that Sanusi’s return as emir symbolizes his strong leadership and dedication to his people. “The return of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is a significant milestone that justifies that he is a good leader who thinks and acts for his people; as such, he should count on my personal support and that of my people,” he added.

Bauya also used the opportunity to seek Sanusi’s assistance in completing a Jumaat Mosque project at his palace, which had been delayed due to financial constraints.

“We are seeking your usual support on the construction of a Jumaat Mosque at my palace, which we started about three years ago, but it has been stalled due to some financial difficulties. We hope that you will help us as usual to complete the project,” Bauya appealed.

In response, Emir Sanusi expressed his gratitude to Bauya, noting that this was the first solidarity visit from a northern emir since his reinstatement.

Sanusi emphasized the unity among traditional rulers, stating, “What the emir did was a vindication of the fact that there exists unity and togetherness among us, and this will yield positively on the life and security of the people.”
