This was disclosed in a press statement by the anti-graft agency’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Monday. He stated that Kunya was taken into custody on Sunday, March 16, 2025, after weeks of investigation and surveillance. Her arrest followed accusations of spraying Naira notes for entertainment during her stay at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano.
Kunya had previously been arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, which criminalizes the abuse and mutilation of the Naira. However, after being granted administrative bail, she failed to appear in court, prompting the EFCC to intensify efforts to apprehend her.
The anti-graft agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing financial regulations and warned against practices such as spraying, stamping, or mutilating the Naira, particularly during social gatherings.
